Sandoz is currently recruiting for a Senior Trademark Paralegal to join our global legal team to work on a complete range of trademark, trade dress and domain name operational tasks for a regional trademark portfolio and global franchise trademark related issues in close collaboration with business clients.

Job purpose

The purpose of the Senior Trademark Paralegal role is to coordinate Sandoz paralegal input at a cross-divisional level and manage the relation with some Trademark Vendors. Acts as divisional system administrator for TM database being responsible for system functionality, compliance, user trainings, system testing as well as being first level user contact.

Key Responsibilities

Proactively and independently fulfill Trademark (TM) and Domain Name (DN) operational tasks:

• Independently draft responses to domestic and international TM agents with limited attorney input; provide some supervision and guidance of draft responses to junior trademark paralegals
• Assists TM attorneys with complex TM matters
• Ensures consistent back-up operational support is provided to attorneys
• Communicates with clients in the region about status of trademark searches and applications
• Responsible for TM filing, docketing and maintenance
• Responsible for TM renewals within allocated region/countries

Processes and Data Quality:

• Identifies and communicate data inconsistencies outside standard guidelines and rules
• Guarantees continuity of TM operational procedures in absence of supervisor
• Analyses and adapts processes in order to improve efficiency
• Actively proposes, leads and participates in team and cross-functional and cross-divisional projects
• Organizes and proactively coordinates attorney work relating to TM matters with the relevant countries in the region or with the global franchise


• Participates in the introduction of new TM attorneys, specialists and other TM paralegals
• Participates in on-boarding of new attorneys and specialists
• Provides professional mentoring to junior TM paralegals when appropriate
• Provides input to training courses and role development within the TM function
• Leads some workshops relating to TM operational procedures and training.
• Full understanding of TM and DN operational tasks and ability to assist and enhance TM and DN processes and other IP service related competencies
• Responsible for managing and maintaining Data Quality (DQ) by initiating and processing regular DQ review reports

Legal & Intellectual Property & Compliance


The ideal candidate will have

• At least 7 years’ experience as TM paralegal or equivalent in the Legal field
• High School diploma, some university/college
• Fluent in written and spoken English; ability to communicate preferably in an additional language
• Extensive experience in independently managing all operational task
• Paralegal qualification, IP training/certificates or equivalent (e.g., WIPO Advanced Trademark course, Certificate in Trademark Administration (CIPA))
• Able to instruct complex searches and reports
• Able to conduct searches using on-line sources
• Able to work essentially independently in preparation of draft schedules and supporting documents for subsequent attorney review
• Able to communicate with business clients in multiple countries
• Excellent team-player with exemplary interpersonal skills
• Reliable, service-oriented with impeccable integrity and willingness to learn
