Job purpose

The purpose of the role is to serve as Head Legal Counsel of Novartis Technical Operations (“NTO”) for Germany and Austria supported by the NTO legal Counsel Austria and to drive the effective implementation of the NTO Legal strategy across NTO technology platforms, operations and functions. Support the Head Legal NTO EMEA & Global Procurement in the management of all legal matters in scope of NTO in Germany and Austria and provide day-to-day legal counseling and advice to the NTO organization in an efficient and productivity enhancing manner.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage and further develop the NTO Country Legal Counsel Austria by providing direction and coaching
• Member of the NTO EMEA Legal Team and actively contributes to the design and execution of the function’s strategy
• Provide day-to-day legal and proactive support to the site leadership teams and the cluster leadership team
• Manage NTO legal matters occurring at country and site level supporting direct procurement, indirect procurement, IT assets/systems, real estate, HSE, quality, HR, corporate /compliance, footprint, engineering and third party businesses
• Act as responsible lawyer for NTO in assigned projects
• Support the development and roll out of standardized procurement template agreements and training materials
• Coordinate with other Novartis lawyers in the country and if necessary in the region as well as with NTO/NBS attorneys at global level to ensure smooth project implementation
• Act as a strong business partner regarding drafting, reviewing and negotiating various types of contracts related to the sourcing of goods and services from third parties and the provision of services to other Novartis group companies adopting a business focused approach
• Managing contract documentation, defining negotiation strategies, handling and resolving disputes (e.g. defects, delays etc.), drafting of legal opinions and legal documents
• Collaborate with country legal organization on country level legal and compliance initiatives
• Manage legal aspects of projects and drive them to conclusion
• Advise on legal aspects of compliance policies, procedures, training and risk assessments

About NTO:

Novartis Technical Operations (NTO) was established to centralize management of our manufacturing operations across our Innovative Medicines and Sandoz Divisions, with a goal of further improving efficiency. NTO is expected to optimize capacity planning and adherence to quality standards, and to lower costs through simplification, standardization and external spend optimization. Centralization is also expected to improve our ability to develop next generation technologies, implement continuous manufacturing and share best practices across divisions.

NTO includes approximately 26,900 full-time equivalent associates and 68 manufacturing sites across our Innovative Medicines and Sandoz Divisions.

Legal & Intellectual Property & Compliance


Mindestanforderungen

The ideal candidate will have

• Good working knowledge of German law and relevant European legislation
• Relevant post qualification legal experience; ideally gained within a healthcare/pharmaceutical environment, or, alternatively, with a top-tier law firm
• Experience of advising on supply chain, procurement and commercial matters
• Good drafting skills and ability to analyze complex legal issues
• Fluency in German and English
• Strong verbal & written communication skills; together with a high ability to influence and negotiate
• Proven ability to deal positively when working within tight time pressures & demanding clients
• Strong experience in handling a high volume of activity involving multiple, often complex projects simultaneously
• Project management skills
• Management experience preferred
• Demonstrate professional & culturally sensitive work ethic
