Job purpose

The purpose of the Head Patient Communications and Advocacy role is to ensure that Sandoz continues to become a more patient-centric organization. As part of the Global Communications team, you will develop and implement global advocacy strategies for the Biopharmaceuticals Business Unit and for the global franchises. As Head of Patient Communication and Advocacy, you will collaborate with Marketing, Commercial Operations, Market Access, Global Development, Public Affairs and Novartis Patient Advocacy to support the growth of Sandoz’s biosimilars business and the enhancement of Sandoz’s reputation as a patient-focused leader in generics and biosimilars.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and implement strategic plan for sustaining patient advocacy outreach on biosimilars aligned with business unit objectives and focused on key countries
• Manage relationships with key regional and global patient organizations
• Facilitate regional and global patient group events, including patient advisory boards in alignment with medical/franchise leaders to get insights and advice from expert advocates
• Develop material and tools to ensure compliance, alignment and consistency of patient relations approach across countries
• Build patient relations competency within Sandoz to support growth of other specialty businesses
• Integrate patient advocacy into market access and clinical trial recruitment initiatives
• Serve as part of Novartis Patient Advocacy Leadership Network and Global Patient Engagement Council
• Work with business to articulate and drive Sandoz perspective on key topics with broad implications for Sandoz global franchises
• Implement communications and stakeholder engagement plans on relevant patient-oriented topics to support Sandoz reputation as a leader in biosimilars and generics
• Counsel regions and countries on executing stakeholder engagement projects on topics relevant to franchises
• Partner with business on large-scale change communications, including message development and communications plan implementation
• Serve as communications council to senior franchise leadership team, prioritizing franchises that reach the most patient

The ideal candidate will have

• Undergraduate degree in communications, journalism, marketing, business or life sciences. Advanced degrees will be considered as a plus
• Excellent English language skills – oral and written; fluency in other languages is going to be considered as an advantage
• Relevant experience in the Communication area ideally gained within a healthcare/pharmaceutical environment
• Significant professional experience in a similar role in a major corporation or public relations agency
• Strong experience in building and executing patient advocacy strategies in the healthcare/pharmaceutical industry as well as in global communications
• Ability to manage the various disciplines in external relations in a complex organization and experience in providing counsel to senior stakeholders across the company
• Ability to gain the credibility and buy-in of senior management and have strong influencing skills
• Creative and strategic thinker with experience designing and implementing successful advocacy strategies
• Excellent relationship building skills is a requirement
• Excellent global project management experience is also requirement
• Proactive self-starter with a hands-on approach and attention to detail
• Experience working in a multicultural and diverse international environment
