Sandoz is currently recruiting for a Head IP Product Strategy to provide strategic guidance and direction to the IP Product Strategy team, leading all patent and related activities, serving as strategic partner to the key business leaders and within company’s leadership team advising on patent-related strategies for generic product development, acquisition and launch, providing key contribution to meet the company business goals.

Job purpose

The purpose of the Head IP Product Strategy role is to develop and implement innovative approaches to guidance, management, coaching and development the Therapeutic Area Heads to ensure a streamlined, consistent and effective approach throughout the entire IP Product Strategy team. To ensure close cooperation between the product strategy and litigation teams to support launches and to partner with early opportunities team to set out launch strategies for Sandoz products.

Key Responsibilities

• Manages and directs all patent activities in the Product Strategy Team, providing strategic guidance and direction to the team, ensuring a significant contribution to achieve the company business goals.
• Provide strategic support to generic product launches.
• Oversees communication of team to business.
• Builds relationships and is trusted counsel and advisor of senior business leaders on IP related topics.
• Reports to and works closely with the Global Head of IP and all members of the IP leadership.

• Instils and champions quality and operational excellence standards throughout the team.
• Provide significant contribution to the budget planning process and is accountable for spend management.
• Is an active member of the IP leadership team contributing to the creation and implementation of Sandoz patent policies, guidelines and objectives.
• Leads talent development initiatives and continuously develops and coaches team members.
• Continuously develops personal and professional skills.

Legal & Intellectual Property & Compliance


The ideal candidate will have

• Scientific Degree BA, BSc, PhD or equivalent.
• EQE and/or equivalent national or regional patent qualification OR admission to practice as an attorney-at-law (e.g., lawyer or solicitor)
• English Language Proficiency
• 10+ years experience in Intellectual Property law.
• Significant experience of People leadership and track record of change management.
• Experience of working within a matrix organization
• Extensive/specialized experience of: Project leadership; working in cross-functional teams, and advising the business on generic product development and launches.
• 5+ years experience of: People leadership; including Cross-cultural and Global/Regional teams; setting and implementing litigation strategy for generic product launches; supporting commercial functions; collaborating in a cross-divisional environment.
• Significant experience in a multi-national corporate environment actively participating in litigation of multi-jurisdictional disputes.
